I've always been a great admirer of Martin Luther King Jr. I think this is for two reasons, firstly, because he was making waves around the time of my birth. (I had just turned one year old when he delivered his "I have a Dream" Address.) Obviously I don't remember this, but it would certainly be one of the great speeches in recent history. And secondly, because he was a Baptist Minister and this has been my vocation from the beginning of 2007.
The reason for this post is that the ABC have published an opinion piece in their Religion and Ethics section which I found very stimulating and timely. It is titled “I want to be a good man”: Martin Luther King, Jr. and the challenge of moral perfectionism' by Paul C. Taylor. OK, so the title isn't that stimulating!
I'm not going to elaborate on the article but rather just quote the closing line.
.... Martin Luther King’s life has become a monument. It should be a command.
