IC-7610 Firmware updated to 1.30

The Firmware on the IC-7610 was updated to ver. 1.30 today without issue.

SDR# spyserver

I picked up another secondhand NUC (Mini PC), with Windows 10 installed. It is an Intel® Core™ i5 Processor with 8G of Ram and a 128G SSD. The price was good so nothing to lose really!

After doing some software updates, I loaded the SDR# spyserver software, and configured it for a standard RTL-SDR.  I have commented in the past, that there is a lot of amazing software out there for free.  SDRSharp from Airspy is one such package.

It didn't take long for it to spring into life.

All this for about $100.00!

Dugarugu

Paul Kelly wrote 'From little things Big things grow' to celebrate the beginnings of the Indigenous Land Rights movement. It's center for a time was Wave Hill in the NT. A monument still stands in the remote community of Daguragu.  Inscribed with these words:-

At this site on 16th August 1975 Mr Vincent Lingiari leader of the Gurindji people received from the Prime Minister of Australia the Honourable E. G. Whitlam, Q.C.,M.P. and the Minister for Aboriginal Affairs the Honourable Les Johnson, M.P. the pastoral lease 10 1250 square miles formerly part of the Wave Hill Pastoral Lease.

Vincent Lingiari  stated, 'now we can all be mates together'.

There is still some way to go, in fact you could argue that not much has changed.

Out and About

My work has taken me to some very special places and Lajamanu would have to be one on them. How remote is this? Only 880km from Darwin!

Drop by The Peppermint Lounge

Check in at The Peppermint Lounge (no need to socially distance here). Phil is another VK8 in Darwin and his blog covers an eclectic mix from literature to radios.

Now, this brings back memories of working in Altronics during the school holidays!  Altronics was a supplier of the FRG-7 at the time. Like Phil, owning an FRG-7 was also a dream of mine, 'but I guess our dreams must wait awhile Until we finish school!' to quote Harry Chapin, from the same decade!  I never did get one, but then there are so many more toys to choose from these day!

Birthday Celebrations - VI100AF

The Royal Australian Air Force celebrated its 100th birthday on the 31st March. As part of these celebrations a special call-sign was allocated and I was invited to RAAF Base Darwin to be part of this special event.

Stuie and Joel (both serving RAAF members), along with Simon and myself, enjoyed setting up the station and sharing our hobby with a number of interested RAAF personnel. There were even a few on-air contacts made. Always a Bonus!
